Andaman and Nicobar island is a very popular holiday destination among Indians due to its untouched natural scenery. I and Amit both love beaches a lot and always try to take a vacation in places near beaches. So, after one month of coming from Dubai, he decided to surprise me by planning the trip to Andaman and Nicobar island.
As I loved Dubai very much so I didn’t think that anything in India will match my standard from now on and Amit always tells me there are so many beautiful and versatile places in India that Why do you even want to go to any foreign country. According to him, first, we should explore India then should step out to see what other things the world have to offer. Although I am not that much conceived with his argument the trip to Andaman and Nicobar island did make my Dubai trip pale in the comparison.
First thing first, We booked our flight from MakeMyTrip and we got amazing discounts for our flight of Kolkata to Port Blair. The ticket was very cheap. Although I have also browsed for Andaman trip package but believe the price there is simply outrageous. If you see the itinerary in the packages and book all those things yourself then it reduces the price by half.
There is only one Airport situated at Port Blair in Andaman and Nicobar island and the other mode of traveling is by ship. The flight takes almost 2-3 hours so we opted for it.
We had early morning early morning flight. When we reached near Port Blair, I was trying to see how does Andaman and Nicobar island looks from the above and believe me it was a treat to my eyes.
The Airport runway at the Andaman and Nicobar island is very small and for the most part of our landing I was seeing the sea and some home in little islands, this did make me little worried about our descend to land but everything was ok.
Airport was very small compared to other places I have visited and some parts were under construction. We took our baggage and went to tourism help desk counter, from there we took Andaman and Nicobar island map and enquired the person there about the means we can take to reach our hotel. Government Staff was very polite and helpful, they give us the list of standard charges fixed by the government and we booked a cab from there. Our Cab driver was a helpful guy and told us a lot about the tour packages offered there but we wanted to see every place in our own pace so we declined his offer. I asked him about the cab fare from our hotel to central jail in Andaman and Nicobar island and he told us 800 INR. We were ok with this price and took the mobile number of cab person. After landing our hotel, we were talking to hotel staff and came to know that central jail in Andaman and Nicobar island is merely 15min. walking distance from us!!!
So, We downloaded google map and decide to take local autos for our small travels. Autos take 15-20 INR for central jail as the path is a little bit longer by road than walking.
